HRO Arizona’s Practice Gains Experienced Litigator, Brian Mueller

Phoenix, Arizona, September 24, 2009 – Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (HRO) is delighted to announce that partner Brian Mueller has joined the firm’s Litigation practice in Arizona. A prominent and highly respected member of the Arizona business, Bar, and scholastic communities, Mr. Mueller joins HRO from the Phoenix office of Mariscal, Weeks, McIntyre & Friedlander, P.A. He is the sixth lateral partner to join the firm’s Scottsdale office since its opening seventeen months ago.

Mr. Mueller practices primarily in the area of complex commercial litigation at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels. The addition of his extensive litigation background to the Arizona office will complement the firm’s established corporate business, golf club and resort, real estate, and intellectual property, technology, and media practices.

While best known for his ability to litigate a wide range of complex matters for prominent local businesses as well as companies with multi-million dollar sales in global markets, Mr. Mueller also has experience in bankruptcy proceedings and banking procedures. Mr. Mueller has first-chaired many intricate jury trials during his twenty-six year legal career. Perhaps the most unusual involved his representation of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma against the State of New York for the wrongful taking of land dating back to 1795 in the first and only Indian land claim ever to go to trial. Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Mueller is a certified player agent with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), and the Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA).

According to Janet Betts, Managing Partner of HRO’s Scottsdale office, Mr. Mueller’s arrival represents the next step in the firm’s plan to expand its Commercial Litigation practice in Arizona, as well as to broaden the strength and depth of the firm’s trial attorneys nationwide.

“Brian brings with him a wealth of experience in a wide variety of litigation areas. His in-depth knowledge of the local [Arizona] marketplace, combined with his proven reputation for providing high quality commercial litigation advice will be instrumental in helping us further expand the range of legal services we are able to offer our clients. He is a seasoned commercial litigator who shares our values of legal excellence, innovation, and client service. We are glad that he is here, and we welcome him.”

Speaking of his appointment, Brian said: “I was with my former firm for 26 years, and not looking to change.  However, when presented with the opportunity to join a firm of HRO’s stature, and have the opportunity to work on a more regional and national scale, I felt I had to take advantage of it.  This was particularly true after I met the HRO attorneys with whom I will be working, and who, in addition to being great lawyers, were also great people.  It just felt right.  This is an exciting challenge, and one that will allow me to leverage my talents and further grow my practice.”

Mr. Mueller is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Arizona and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits. He has served as counsel for the State Bar of Arizona and is a faculty member for its Professionalism course required for all Arizona Bar admitees.
