Denver, Colorado, March 2, 2010 – Holme Roberts & Owen Solicitors, Dublin, Ireland welcomed Ian Crotty and Andrew Rush as partners on February 11, 2010. Both were formerly colleagues at Fishburns Solicitors in Ireland. Mr. Crotty and Mr. Rush are experienced litigators who joined HRO to establish the new Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Department. They primarily handle professional indemnity litigation, construction litigation and debt collection—growing legal areas in times of recession. The firm anticipates that HRO Dublin’s litigation department will expand over the coming months with the Dublin office also undertaking IP/Media, employment and competition cases.
Mr. Crotty has an in-depth understanding of the construction process. He has developed key relationships with insurers, brokers and insured professionals in both Ireland and the UK. He handles a broad range of both contentious and non-contentious professional indemnity and construction-related matters and gives insurance coverage advice. His clients include leading insurers, architects, engineers, solicitors, project managers, accountants and auditors. Also a trained advocate, Mr. Crotty has substantial experience as a mediator and arbitrates regularly. In addition to his professional indemnity and construction practice, Mr Crotty also handles personal injury and IP litigation.
At Fishburns and Hussey Fraser in Ireland and Severson & Werson in the United States, Mr. Rush developed professional indemnity insurance defense expertise, emphasizing construction-based claims. Throughout his career he forged and maintained a strong relationship with London and domestic professional indemnity insurers, while developing a close working relationship with insurance brokers, claims handlers and insureds. Additionally, Mr. Rush is qualified in Ireland. He is also admitted to practice before the Courts of California and New York State, where he has acted as chief advocate in both State and Federal Courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation. He has represented national and multi-national corporations in construction-related claims (in civil litigation, arbitration and mediation), including the largest ever such claim in Ireland involving multiple cross claims with quantum in excess of €600 million.
Mr. Rush has participated, both as mediator and party representative, in excess of 200 mediations and has litigated matters in all Irish courts as well as courts throughout California and New York State. He has frequently engaged in conciliation and binding and non-binding arbitration.
