Green Initiatives
Environmental issues are increasingly shaping the context of business, and everyone plays a daily role in reducing our impact on the environment, conserving natural resources and managing our firm in a sustainable manner. It is our policy to foster an environmental sustainability culture within our firm – to embed sustainability within our daily processes and develop broad-based internal participation in our environmental improvement efforts.
A number of our recent initiatives include:
- In mid-January Maguire Properties-Denver Center, LLC, began a commingled recycling program for all of its tenants at Wells Fargo Building. Since its inception HRO has done an excellent job diverting materials from the waste stream and into recycling and in Q1 2009 on average, HRO recycled three times more than the rest of the tenants in the building.
- HRO offices in Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs began trialing the use of green printer cartridge toners. The plan is to transition HRO’s other US offices to using these eco-green office supplies by late summer 2009.
- HRO completed a project to upgrade across all its US offices, the firm’s computers and monitors. The more energy efficient Optiplex 760 PC offers ENERGY STAR 4.0 compliance, as does the 1908 FP Monitor (19") which is also rated EPEAT “Silver” by the Green Electronics Council.
- HRO has ceased the purchase of bottled water in its domestic offices in favor of water filtration systems. In addition, the firm has replaced Styrofoam cups, plates and plastic cutlery with recycled and compostable materials.
