Pro Bono Work
PRO BONO POLICIES AND PRACTICESThe firm has made a strong commitment to pro bono work and community service in terms of financial resources and lawyer time. However, the amount of time and effort an individual lawyer provides in helping to fulfill this firm commitment is left to his/her discretion, in consultation with his/her practice group leader.
The firm's pro bono legal activities have included representation of individual clients through the Legal Aid Society, the American Civil Liberties Union and Bar Association programs, as well as representation of community groups in which partners of the firm are involved, such as Earth Island Institute, Rocky Mountain Children’s Legal Clinic, the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Ronald McDonald House, Arapahoe House, Inc. and the Boys' and Girls' Clubs. The firm has handled environmental litigation on a pro bono basis for such organizations as the Sierra Club and the Land and Water Fund of the Rockies
In addition to assisting with pro bono legal work, several partners and associates serve on the boards of various community and charitable organizations. Many of our attorneys also assist staff members with the daily delivery of hot lunches to elderly participants in our local Meals on Wheels program and the delivery of Thanksgiving food baskets to indigent families in the area. Several of our attorneys and staff members are involved in Denver's Passport to Peace and Read for Peace projects, which are conflict and anger management programs for elementary school children designed to teach them how to handle conflict at home and school without resorting to violence. The firm's significant community involvement was recognized in 1998 when it received one of nine Business Social Responsibility Awards, presented by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission.
