Experience

Blaine J. Benard is a senior litigation partner in the Salt Lake City office and serves as Chairman of the firm’s 100+ lawyer Litigation Practice Group.  Mr. Benard is also a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and focuses his practice on the prosecution and defense of cases involving complex business litigation, intellectual property, products liability, aerospace, energy, and health care facility cases.  Mr. Benard was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2001-2007 and has served as managing partner of the firm’s Salt Lake City office.

Mr. Benard represents a wide variety of clients and has significant experience representing an international aerospace and defense contracting company, an international commercial airline, a national telecommunications company, natural resources owners and developers, energy companies, financial institutions, and other businesses.

Mr. Benard also practices in the area of patent infringement litigation where he handles cases in multiple jurisdictions.  Mr. Benard has particular experience in electronic data storage, web-based and systems software, and other advanced technologies.

In addition to his practice in commercial litigation and intellectual property, Mr. Benard has extensive experience in the area of health care law, where he has served as outside general counsel to two hospitals for more than 12 years and represents other health care providers.

Mr. Benard carries an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell, is recognized by Chambers USA as one of the leading litigation attorneys in Utah, is consistently recognized by Utah Business Magazine as among Utah's Legal Elite, and is regularly listed in The Mountain States Super Lawyers publication.
