Experience

Paul Sung Cha is a senior associate in the Intellectual Property, Technology and Media Practice Group. Mr. Cha has represented clients in protecting, enforcing, and capitalizing intellectual property rights (patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret) including litigation, arbitration, prosecution (procurement), counseling, licensing, and mergers and acquisitions. He has litigated patent infringement cases involving securities trading systems, replacement heart valve technologies, hand-held therapeutic laser systems, meat processing technologies, RAID storage devices, high speed Ethernet systems, and design patents. Mr. Cha has also represented clients in cases involving trademark infringement, domain names (cybersquatting, UDRP), false designation/advertising, unfair competition, libel/slander, breach of contract, copyright infringement, and trade secret misappropriation, among others.

In addition, Mr. Cha has prosecuted numerous patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office involving technologies such as social networks, credit issuing systems, illumination systems, nuclear reactor inspection systems, fishing equipment, road barrier safety systems, ceramic filters, wind power systems, blasting/mining technology, cell growth media, image processing systems, and designs.

As a co-chair of HRO’s Pacific Rim/Asian Practice Group, Mr. Cha routinely represents Asian and domestic clients as their legal and cultural counsel. Mr. Cha has traveled on numerous occasions to Korea and Japan to present on U.S. intellectual property issues.

Mr. Cha comes to HRO with a background in molecular biology, software development, and teaching and coaching high school students.
